The Team Trident 2020 FIA Formula 2 and FIA Formula 3 Championship operations will rely on the MegaRide technology to maximize their performance and results. The partnership will focus on optimizing the tire behaviour which is a key element in the overall performance of the cars. The collaboration between Team Trident and MegaRide is aimed at scoring some even sharper results on the track but will go beyond the pure aspect of technology. The two companies will also be tied by co-marketing elements. The logo of the Naples-based company will be shown on the liveries of the Team, headquartered in Milan. A Multiphysics Approach in Real-Time Simulations for the Enhancement of the Vehicle and Tires Conjunct Development

The physical modelling of tire-road interaction phenomena developed by MegaRide UniNa spinoff company for the advanced simulation platform offered by the VI-Grade DIM250 simulator, installed in 2019 at Maserati Innovation Lab, was adopted for an innovative project aimed to the parallel development of vehicle and tires in virtual environment. Involving the outdoor testing of a properly instrumented vehicle prototype allowed the proper parametrization of the virtual vehicle model and the identification of the tire physical behaviour in terms of relationship between frictional performance, stiffness variations and tire tread core and bulk temperature. Such highly-relevant effects have been then reproduced thanks to an innovative approach employing an advanced version of Pacejka’s MF model, called adheRIDE, running in co-simulation with the thermoRIDE thermal model. The results highlighted in the presented study allowed to analyse in detail the tire thermal working ranges explored in outdoor objective and subjective handling, with relevant consequences on the #grip, stiffness and footprint effects commonly considered in the design phases, showing significant variations under the different working conditions related to the typical characterization manoeuvres. Our webinar in collaboration with VI-grade about technical application related to tire multiphysical modelling with the new RIDEsuite tire sim platform, applied to VI-CRT environment is online on YouTube! An overview of the VI-Motorsport package in co-simulation with thermoRIDE and adheRIDE tire models allowed to highlight how systems like DAS, brought in the spotlight during the Formula1 preseason sessions, can be modelled and analyzed accounting for their integrated effects, affecting vehicle and tire behaviour.

MegaRide amplia il suo portafoglio di partnership tecnologiche con Maserati, casa automobilistica ricca di tradizione e successi sportivi. La collaborazione tra Megaride e l’azienda modenese ha per oggetto lo sviluppo di modelli innovativi sul contatto pneumatico/strada, implementati nella nuova struttura del Maserati Innovation Lab. Grazie alle potenzialità di calcolo di quest'ultimo, MegaRide realizzerà pneumatici virtuali che restituiscono al driver e al team di sviluppo sensazioni e dati legati al raggiungimento della temperatura alla quale ottenere il grip ottimale. Il livello avanzato di simulazione e realismo garantiranno a Maserati la possibilità di un più accurato e raffinato sviluppo della dinamica del veicolo. Tire Technology Expo 2020

From February 25th to February 27th, members of the UniNa Vehicle Dynamics research group and of MegaRide will take part to the Tire Technology Expo 2020 in Hannover, Germany. On the second day our CEO Flavio Farroni will give a speech about the activities developed in cooperation in the last years with Ducati Corse on real-time motorcycle tire thermal modelling for motorsport applications, and will hold a course on Physical Tire Modeling for Real-Time Simulations together with other experts of such topic. During the third day Prof. Aleksandr Sakhnevych will unveil the new RIDEsuite software package: a real-time multi-physical modular tire model. Eng. Andrea Sammartino will speak about the projects developed with Prometeon, with the presentation titled “Physical models for truck tire/road characterization and thermal analysis”. And Eng. Antonio Maiorano, PhD candidate from the research group will focus on “Non-destructive innovative methodologies for tire characterization, developed at UniNa Tyre Lab”.
